Born and raised in beautiful Lee County, Virginia, Seth grew up working for his father's construction business. From the time when he was big enough to reach the controls of an excavator, Seth's dad, Greg, had him out running machinery and working on various grading projects, many of which were contracted through the Virginia DOT. During the summers when he was off from school, Seth would get up early in the morning to go out to work with his dad, waking at 5:30 A.M. almost every day. It was through this early experience that Seth learned about heavy equipment and construction machinery, and the inner workings and mechanics therein. Some family friends jest that Seth “was raised by a bunch of equipment operators.” This isn't that far from the truth.
After attending public school in Lee County, Seth went on to pursue his Bachelor's Degree at Virginia Tech. He majored in Civil Engineering, and graduated in May of 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, Seth accepted a position with OWPR, Inc., a local architecture and engineering firm in Blacksburg, Virginia. In his position as a civil designer, Seth performed complete land development design and layout for a number of varying projects, including government buildings such as schools, post offices, and maintenance facilities, as well as private projects such as condominiums, commercial buildings, and offices. Duties at OWPR included drafting, performing stormwater calculations, erosion control design, site layout and design, estimating budgets for work to be performed, and contract administration on assigned projects.
It was during this time that Seth learned the most about engineering design, and he obtained his license as a Professional Engineer in July 2008, after passing the Principles and Practice exam, given to all engineers wishing to become PE's.
Currently Seth holds a valid PE license in Virginia, and plans to gain licensure in North Carolina and Tennessee in the future.
In July 2008, after working four years at OWPR, Seth relocated to the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Since relocation, he has enrolled in the Master's of Business Administration program within the Belk College of Business at the UNC Charlotte. He plans to complete the MBA in May 2011, and continue working in construction and real estate development.
Since enrolling in graduate school, Seth has also returned to work with his father in the grading and machinery business. His current responsibilities include project management and engineering, as it relates to construction projects. Seth is also in charge of used machinery acquisitions and sales, and is active in the heavy equipment marketplace. His experience early in his life has provided Seth with a valuable knowledge base and work ethic, which serves he and his clients very well when providing professional services.
